smart agriculture using internet of things

The Internet of Things (IoT) is transforming the agriculture industry and enabling farmers to contend with the enormous challenges they face. New innovative IoT applications are addressing these issues and increasing the quality, quantity, sustainability and cost effectiveness of agricultural production. Today’s large and local farms can, for example, leverage IoT to remotely monitor sensors that can detect soil moisture, crop growth and livestock feed levels, remotely manage and control their smart connected harvesters and irrigation equipment, and utilize artificial intelligence based analytics to quickly analyze operational data combined with 3rd party information, such as weather services, to provide new insights and improve decision making.

spinet winner, gadgetronicx 2017

Spinet is a vintage musical instrument which has similar looks of a keyboard. It always get better when Technology touches the vintage stuff. So we decided to build a simple Electronic Spinet using Arduino without using any keys. This project use of ultrasonic sensor which replace the keys.The complete working of the spinet is based on the distance parameter. If there is an obstacle in front of the ultrasonic sensor,the sound will be produced in the speaker. Here obstacle is nothing but our finger which we are using for producing the sound.

raspberrypi node-red

Node-RED is a programming tool for wiring together hardware devices, APIs and online services in new and interesting ways. It provides a browser-based editor that makes it easy to wire together flows using the wide range of nodes in the palette that can be deployed to its runtime in a single-click.It is built on node.js.Node Red can be installed on Raspberrypi and its server can be runned on it. A sensor is connected to raspberry pi and this data is sent to mobile as a SMS. The whole thing is done using Node Red.

esp8266 mqtt mobile application

ESP8266 is connected to a server through MQTT protocol.MQTT stands for MQ Telemetry Transport. It is a publish/subscribe, extremely simple and lightweight messaging protocol, designed for constrained devices and low-bandwidth, high-latency or unreliable networks. The design principles are to minimise network bandwidth and device resource requirements whilst also attempting to ensure reliability and some degree of assurance of delivery. These principles also turn out to make the protocol ideal of the emerging “machine-to-machine” (M2M) or “Internet of Things” world of connected devices, and for mobile applications.I have created a mobile application which Communicates with the ESP8266 using MQTT.

esp8266 bluemix

IBM Bluemix is a cloud platform as a service (PaaS) developed by IBM. It supports several programming languages and services as well as integrated DevOps to build, run, deploy and manage applications on the cloud. Bluemix is based on Cloud Foundry open technology and runs on SoftLayer infrastructure. Bluemix supports several programming languages including Java, Node.js, Go, PHP, Swift, Python, Ruby Sinatra, Ruby on Rails and can be extended to support other languages such as Scala through the use of buildpacks.I coded ESP8266 to send data to Bluemix cloud using Internet of Things service.The data which is sent from the ESP8266 is stored in the database provied by Bluemix.
